Camera Brands Guide - What’s the difference between them? Wich one is better?

Here I’m gonna explain briefly what each camera company brand offer and wich one you should choose.

Each brand offers different types of lens collections and accesories. Take the time to learn what each camera brands ecosystems have to offer. You might want to know the differences between each brand.

Canon:

Known as “the Apple” of cameras, with a lot of history and reputation behind. Being on top with Nikon, leading the market for so many years with DSLR cameras. They were late to the mirrorless “party” introducing their first mirrorless RF mount in 2018. The older DSLR lenses can be used with an adapter on their mirrorless cameras. Canon cameras are known for reliability, ease of use, pleasant skin tones, Ideal for shooting people. For photos they are incredible, but on the video side are known to cripple their cameras, forcing you to buy the more expensive cameras. RF lenses especially the L-series (red ring) are the top quality lenses but also comes with top price tag. They also offer couple afordable ones with decent quality. The worst downside is they forbidden third party lens manufactories to release autofocus lenses making their ecosystem less atractive for most people for lack of lens options. Basicaly you are forced to buy everything from them. But as Apple does, they deliver at a cost.

Canon Mirrorless mount: RF, RF-S; EF-M. Canon DSLR mount: EF and EF-S mount. RF and RF-S are esentially the same mount. Same for EF and EF-S. The main difference RF-S, EF-S as EF-M lenses are more compact and designed to work mainly with APS-C crop sensor cameras.

Conclusion: Canon ecosystem is amazing if the budget isn’t an issue. Ideal for shooting people. Just don’t forget to get an insurrance for it.

Sony:

Without much camera history behind, Sony started producing digital consumer cameras since 1980 until 2006 when they acquired an innovative Konica Minolta camera brand including their A (alpha) mount. Releasing couple of DSLR and DSLT cameras with incredible tecnology but without that much succes. They became a sensor provider for companies like Nikon, Fujifilm, smartphone sensors etc. Releasing the mirrorless E mount in 2010 was a revolutionary for camera industry. Because even thou they weren’t first doing mirrorless cameras, they were first for pufor having DSLR level quality in a small and compact body design, also keeping the same concept today with their entry-level cameras. Without much competition they were succesfull releasing cameras constantly every year with innovative and top class performance in photo and video leading the mirrorless market. In 2018 others cameras companies decided to switch to mirrorless accepting that is the future of cameras. Sony sensors are known for ofering amazing performance in image quality, autofocus, tones of costumization, natural colors, not the greatest ergonomics, not the easiest to use, their camera require a learning curve process.

Sony Mirrorless mount: E mount Sony FE for full-frame sensor and Sony E (APS-C). Top quality premium lenses are Sony GM (G-master series) also Sony G (G-series) for second best quality.

Conclusion: Sony ecosystem is amazing for every budget. Huge collection of lenses and accesories. If you find yourself editing your RAW footage and don’t mind extra time for adjusting colors in post, go for it. I’ll recomend it because of very capable cameras and convinence in a compact package.

Nikon:

Being on top with Canon for so many years leading the DSLR industry with relible cameras and alot of history and reputation behind releasing amazing DSLR cameras, Nikon being also late to mirroless “party” along Canon. Nikon released their mirrorless Z mount on 2018. Nikon were in big financial trouble lately but they manage to release decent cameras and lenses but not as capable as Canon or Sony, but they managed to improve their cameras along the way though cameras firmware updates. Their ecosystem mirrorless systems is now focused around the Z and Z DX (APS-C) mount. Know for amazing colors, reliability, good ergonomics, easy to use, but without many options on lenses for now. They also forbidden third party lens companies to release autofocus lenses that match their lenses making their mirrorless Z mount less atractive for most people.
